TV houses, movie homes: Wilmington-area houses that have appeared in films or on TV shows

If it’s used well or often enough, a house in a TV show or movie can almost become like another character.

Think about the totally ’70s house from “The Brady Bunch,” or the totally scary house from “The Amityville Horror.”

In terms of locations, the Wilmington area has some extremely recognizable houses that have appeared in various TV shows and movies over the decades. Some of them still attract visitors hoping to get a glimpse of the big (or small) screen in real life, while others remain obscure, and yet immortalized.

‘Blue Velvet,’ Sandy’s house

Button-cute brick house with an arched doorway and arched front window served as the suburban home of Sandy, the innocent character played by Laura Dern in David’s Lynch’s 1896 masterpiece “Blue Velvet.” It’s at 128 Northern Blvd. in the historic Sunset Park neighborhood.

‘Supreme’s at Earl’s,’ Fourth & Orange

In “The Supremes at Earl’s All-You-Can-Eat,” the Searchlight Pictures movie released on Hulu earlier this year , a stately brick house at Fourth and Orange streets in downtown Wilmington plays the home of Big Earl (Tony Winters), owner of the movie’s namesake diner. Multiple key scenes play out both inside and outside the house.
