North Texas businesses are victims of a group of Russian hackers

Four businesses in Dallas and Lewisville are among the victims of Russian hackers who have been operating in North America and Europe.

An indictment handed up by a Dallas federal grand jury says Russian national Aleksandr Ryzhenkov is an expert at getting into corporate computer systems and launching malware attacks. The indictment says he and a group have used phishing expeditions and ransomware to extort millions out of victims. If they don’t pay the computer system is locked up.

Former Dallas US Attorney Richard Roper says the FBI can usually trace back the attack. Finding the attackers is a different story. If Ryzhenkov is caught in a country that has an extradition treaty with the U.S. he can be extradited to face charges
