MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Two children who saw the last moments of their father’s life and a defendant who investigators said has an inconsistent story — that’s where the murder case of Taylor Rawlins, 33, stands as more information surfaces in the preliminary hearing of Rawlins’s girlfriend, Jennifer Heathcoe.

ILA Strike begins at Alabama State Docks

Heathcoe, 31, is accused of fatally stabbing Rawlins on Aug. 22 at Charleston Apartment Homes on Sollie Road.

Family and friends claimed the couple had a very “tumultuous” relationship. According to investigators, the couple had been drinking that night, which they said led to the fight. Heathcoe said she had two beers and that Rawlins had a 12-pack.

Investigators testified that Rawlins’s autopsy revealed a deep stab wound in the upper left side of his chest. Enough downward force was behind the knife that investigators said went between Rawlins’s ribs and punctured his lungs, heart, and aorta.
