EPD says “concerned citizen” called to report copper theft suspects

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — Evansville Police provide an update on the two people accused of stealing copper wire from a construction site .

According to a release from EPD, Angel McKinney and Jon Kuhr were arrested Saturday evening for allegedly stealing copper wire from a downtown Evansville construction site. They say a concerned citizen called 911 to report the theft.

McKinney reportedly admitted her and Kuhr, her fiancé, were in the area to steal copper.

Authorities say copper is a type of metal that thieves would steal to sell it to scrap yards for money.

It is said Kuhr has wire cutters, a loaded firearm and other tools consistent with removing copper. During a search of Kuhr’s truck nearby, police say they found more firearms and copper wiring.

Both Kuhr and McKinney were charged with burglary and booked in the Vanderburgh County Confinement Center.
