NEWARK — The state Department of Labor confirmed on Tuesday that a stop work has been issued to one of the subcontractors working on the construction of a trades school in the East Ward.
The stop work order was issued to Allied Construction Services LLC, DOL spokesperson Thomas Wright said in an email to TAPinto Newark.

“The SWO would only have been issued to Allied at this point,” Wright said. Citing the ongoing investigation, he declined to share further information.
As reported by TAPinto Newark , workers complained of being paid in cash from a car and at rates below the state’s legally-required minimum prevailing wage.
Construction on the former site of St. James Hospital continued as workers on Tuesday morning could be seen bringing copper pipes onto the site and heavy machinery turned over dirt. The developer, Summit Assets CEO Albert Nigri, said the subcontractor in question has already been replaced.
“We are cooperating with the appropriate agencies in responding to their requests,” Nigri said. “Our team and the general contractor were able to jump into action immediately and have already replaced the subcontractor with a qualified team. This incident will not change the timeline, nor will the quality of work be impacted.”
