What You Need to Know About Rabies

Rabies is a serious viral disease that affects the central nervous system of mammals, including humans. It is almost always fatal once symptoms appear, but it can be easily prevented through vaccination. The rabies virus is typically transmitted through the saliva of an infected animal, most commonly through bites or scratches. While dogs and cats are often vaccinated, wildlife such as raccoons, skunks, foxes, and bats are frequent carriers of the disease and pose a risk to both people and pets.
