People get out but cats die in Ventura house fire

A house fire broke out late last week in the attic of an east Ventura home that claimed the lives of four of five cats found at the scene.

The people living inside escaped without injury from the blaze reported around 5 p.m. Saturday, according to a news release from the Ventura Fire Department.

Firefighters found a fully involved fire in the attic when they arrived at the single-family house in the 700 block of Olympia Avenue, according to the news release. The address lies in a residential neighborhood west of Petit Avenue and east of Kimball Road.

The fire was declared under control within 40 minutes. The cause remains under investigation.

The occupants got out of the house before firefighters arrived. There were no injuries to them or any fire crews.

About three dozen firefighting personnel responded to the emergency, officials said. They came from Ventura’s fire department, the Ventura County Fire Department and the Oxnard Fire Department.
