Letter: Socialism is slavery and theft

Certain politicians claim we have a right to a job, a right to an income, a right to health care, a right to food, clothing, and housing.  Do we really have the right to the labor and property of others?

We do not have the right to force others to work for us, which is the definition of slavery, and we do not have the right to force others to give us their property, which is theft.   We do not have the right to force others to pay our bills.  Human rights do not include the right to have slaves or the right to be a thief.

Socialism is slavery and theft.  Socialism is monopoly.  A government powerful enough to give us all we need is also a government powerful enough to take away from us all that we have.  If people do not pay their own bills, someone else must be paying them.

Freedom is more than having all your physical needs furnished.  Prisoners and zoo animals and slaves have their physical needs met, but they are not free.

Let us care for those in need, but let us do that voluntarily.   The only people who have a right to our labor or property are our own children, when they are too young to care for themselves.  It takes a village to raise a child, but only if that child’s family fails to do so.
