INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — This story has been updated to include more information on the search and school lockdowns .
Indianapolis police said Wednesday no one was arrested following a search for an armed suspect on the southwest side that caused two schools to go into lockdown.
Sgt. William Young, a public information officer with IMPD, told News 8 that officers were dispatched to the 5000 block of West Raymond Street around 8:30 a.m. to investigate a suspicious person.
That block is in a residential area just north of Interstate 70 and Sam Jones Expressway.
A 911 caller informed police of a man taking the letters off the side of a truck and believed the truck might have been stolen. According to IMPD, officers arrived and spoke with the suspect, and a struggle broke out between them.
Police say a foot pursuit followed, and at some point, the suspect flashed a gun at police. The search for the suspect continued through Wednesday morning. IMPD’s Aviation and K-9 units, as well as SWAT, were on the scene.
