INDIANAPOLIS — Anthony Richardson could return to the practice field as soon as Wednesday.
The Colts left the door open as late as possible.
Indianapolis head coach Shane Steichen typically meets with the local media two and a half hours before the start of Wednesday’s practice, and when Steichen held his press conference this week, he was not ready to rule out Richardson yet, a rarity for an injured player.
“Anthony, we’ll see,” Steichen said. “Limited basis, possibly. He’s going to get warmed up before we go out to practice today.”
Richardson suffered an injury to his right hip when Pittsburgh safety Minkah Fitzpatrick hit the Colts quarterback hard at the end of a 16-yard run on Sunday.
The 22-year-old Colts quarterback returned to the game two plays later, kept the ball on a zone read and decided to slide down almost immediately, realizing he couldn’t accelerate the way he normally can.
Indianapolis ended up scoring a touchdown on the drive anyway.
But Steichen expressed some regret over the play call, a play that asked Richardson to run on the first snap he returned to the game.
