Shortly before 9 a.m. on Sept. 26, a 20-year-old Chesapeake Beach woman who was jogging was struck by a truck on Route 261 in the area of Bristol Drive.
The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office identified the pedestrian as Chloe Clagg.
According to a sheriff’s office release, Clagg “sustained life-threatening injuries.” She was transported to Capital Region Shock Trauma in serious condition.
Investigators said Clagg was running across the road into the travel lane when she was struck by a 2017 Toyota 4Runner driven by Steven O’Neill, 42, also of Chesapeake Beach. O’Neill was not injured.
Hours after the incident, the town posted a statement identifying Clagg as “a town resident and season employee” of the town.
“Please join the town of Chesapeake Beach community in prayer,” for Clagg, the statement read.
On Monday, Clagg’s parents provided the town with an update on their daughter’s condition.
“Neurosurgeons are happy with Chloe’s results so far,” the Claggs wrote. “Her ICP levels are where they want them to be and she is responding to neurological tests. She is still on a ventilator and heavy sedation to begin letting her brain heal itself. Please continue to pray for Chloe. She is a fighter and continues to fight each day.”
