US Attorney General Merrick Garland makes first official visit to RI

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – In his first official visit to Rhode Island, Attorney General Merrick Garland met with state, local and federal law enforcement leaders from the region.

Among those who attended the meeting with Garland at the Rhode Island U.S. Attorney’s Office was R.I. State Police Col. Darnell Weaver, Providence Police Col. Oscar Perez and his counterpart from Cranston Michael Winquist.

Special Agent in Charge of the Boston Office of the FBI Jodi Cohen and Rhode Island U.S. Attorney Zachary Cunha flanked Garland in the meeting.

Reporters were told they are only allowed to cover the beginning of the meeting for Garland’s gave some opening remarks and cannot ask the country’s top prosecutor any questions.
