2 brothers indicted on murder, animal cruelty charges in Lubbock park killings

Two brothers were indicted by a Lubbock County grand jury Tuesday on charges including murder and cruelty to an animal after they were arrested in connection with the killings of their uncle, his girlfriend and their uncle’s dog last month in Mackenzie Park.

Josiah Aleman, 23, and his brother Justin Aleman, 26, were arrested Friday, Sept. 13, in connection with an investigation into the shooting deaths of 55-year-old Angel Aleman, 47-year-old Lydia Hernandez and their dog.

They each face two counts of murder and a count of animal cruelty. Murder carries a punishment of five years to life in prison.

Their charges stem from a Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit investigation that began after Lubbock police officers responded to a shots fired call about 8:40 a.m. Sept. 10 in the 300 block of Cesar E. Chaves Drive in Mackenzie Park.

Responding officers found Aleman, Hernandez and their dog, Monster, suffering gunshot wounds.

Aleman and the dog were pronounced dead at the scene. Hernandez was taken by ambulance to University Medical Center where she died.
