State Street Pedestrian Mall experiment wraps up Oct. 30

MADISON, Wis. — October marks the last month of the City of Madison’s State Street Pedestrian Mall experiment.

The 400-600 blocks of State Street have been blocked for all non-emergency vehicles since May for the experiment, which will wrap up on Wednesday, Oct. 30. The goal was to free up more space for pedestrians and bicyclists.

The Central Business Improvement District took advantage of that space by holding dozens of events throughout the summer, including musical performances and more.

The city pent the summer collecting feedback on the mall experiment. That feedback will be used to create a report, which will be given to the Madison Common Council before the end of the year, so that city leaders can decide if the pedestrian mall will return in the future.

There’s still time to make your voice heard on the mall. You can fill out the city’s Flock to State survey online at the link here .
