New Jersey’s Dry Spell Won’t Last-Coastal Flooding, Shower Chances on the Horizon

Cooler temperatures bring patchy fog, while coastal areas face tidal flooding due to the new moon.

MOUNT HOLLY, NJ — Issued by the National Weather Service at 3:52 AM EDT on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.

Scattered Showers and Cloudy Skies Across the Region Today

A weak cold front will cross New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania today, bringing scattered showers to the Lehigh Valley and Southern Poconos. These showers are expected to be light, with only 15-30% chance of rain, as the cold front weakens while moving across the region. The rest of the area, including Philadelphia and South Jersey, will experience mostly cloudy skies and light onshore winds. Temperatures will hover in the upper 60s to low 70s.

Patchy Fog Tonight with Clearing Skies Expected Thursday

As the cold front dissipates tonight, high pressure will reestablish over the region, leading to dry conditions and continued cloudy skies. Some patchy fog may develop, particularly in the NJ Pinelands and the Poconos, where cooler overnight temperatures will drop into the mid to upper 50s. By Thursday, expect a sunnier trend with temperatures rising to the mid-70s, offering a pleasant, warm day for much of the region.
