Teen Charged in Postal Worker Shooting Death

Additional Coverage:

A 15-year-old suspect has been arrested in Iowa in connection with the murder of a Chicago postal worker in July. The victim, 48-year-old Octavia Redmond, was fatally shot while delivering mail.

The teen’s name has not been released due to juvenile court proceedings. He is accused of shooting Redmond and fleeing in a stolen vehicle.

Chicago police and US Marshals apprehended the suspect in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was charged with murder and ordered to remain in custody.

This arrest follows a separate incident in Michigan, where a 61-year-old man was charged with threatening a postal worker with a knife. The man, Russell Frank Valleu, allegedly became enraged after receiving political mail from Kamala Harris.

Valleu has a history of criminal offenses, including aggravated stalking and domestic violence. He is facing charges of ethnic intimidation and assault with a deadly weapon.

Postal authorities and law enforcement have condemned the violence against postal workers. They emphasize that such senseless acts will not be tolerated and that justice will be pursued.
