Bills’ Joe Brady Takes Blame for Failed Trick Play

The Buffalo Bills found themselves in an early hole against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 4, largely due to Derrick Henry’s dominant first-half performance. The Ravens’ star running back shredded the Bills’ defense, finishing with 199 rushing yards and two touchdowns in a 35-10 blowout.

Midway through the third quarter, with Buffalo trailing 21-10 and pushing into Ravens territory, offensive coordinator Joe Brady called for a trick play on 2nd-and-7. Josh Allen lined up wide while receiver Curtis Samuel took the direct snap. Samuel tossed it off to Allen on a reverse, but Ravens linebacker Kyle Van Noy blew up the play, forcing a strip sack that the Ravens recovered.

Reflecting on the call, Brady admitted he made the wrong decision at the wrong time.

“It was a pretty bad play call,” Brady said . “Even if we were able to get that off, and even if we were able to do anything with it, it wasn’t the right timing for the play.”

The turnover crushed Buffalo’s momentum , and the Ravens capitalized, scoring six plays later to extend their lead to 28-10. Brady took full responsibility, acknowledging that his game plan fell short.
