After release of confidential settlement agreement, Seaman insists City of Las Vegas paid her nothing

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The City of Las Vegas appears on the list of defendants who paid to settle a lawsuit filed in 2017 by City Councilwoman Victoria Seaman and her husband, the 8 News Now Investigators have learned.

Seaman, running for mayor of Las Vegas, sued the city and several other contractors after an auto accident in 2015 injured both her and her husband, court documents show. Seaman and the city both told the 8 News Now Investigators that none of the $100,000 settlement amount came from taxpayer dollars.

In August, Seaman asked a Clark County judge to seal the settlement when a member of the public asked the city to release it and other documents related to the lawsuit. Ultimately the judge, Erika Ballou, sided against Seaman and ordered the city to release a redacted version, which was made available to the 8 News Now Investigators on Wednesday.

The redaction makes it impossible to determine what if any, payment was made by the city and/or how much the city may have paid.

“You can come to your own conclusion,” Seaman said Wednesday. “I can’t say because I signed a confidentiality [agreement].”
