UNC seen as a ‘suitable addition’ to Power 2 conferences

UNC head coach Mack Brown and his Tar Heels have been on the struggle bus the last two weeks. The football program is not moving towards the desired destination of reaching new heights. Interestingly, there’s potential for a major change. The Tar Heels are seen as possible additions to the Power 2 conferences.

Fly War Eagles’ Andrew Hughes received information from media consultant Jim Williams .

“If the SEC and the Big Ten were to compete for a school other than Notre Dame, it would be North Carolina. Both conferences view them as a suitable addition,” Williams told Hughes. “The Big Ten values their strong academics, solid sports program, and the entry it provides into the southern region. For the SEC, UNC complements their southern footprint and offers many attractive qualities.”

North Carolina may not have an elite football program like some of the SEC schools do. But everything else fits the criteria to join the Power 2 conferences.

The thought of North Carolina being in another conference other than the ACC is certainly strange. No argument there. However, the business of college sports is everlasting. Things are bound to change. It’s only a matter of time.
