St. Luke’s dedicates second COVID-19 memorial

BOISE — It’s been four and a half years since the pandemic put the world into lockdown, and now memorials are beginning to pop up at hospitals throughout the Treasure Valley.

On Tuesday, St. Luke’s physicians dedicated a COVID-19 memorial, meant to recognize and stand as a tribute to health care personnel who worked during the pandemic. The memorial stands outside of the chapel at St. Luke’s Boise Medical Center on 190 E. Bannock St., near the main hospital.

“It’s great that we can finally get this done and have a place to remember the sacrifices that so many of our teams made and some of the staff that we lost, some of the patients that we lost during the COVID pandemic,” said Dr. Frank Johnson, one of St. Luke’s chief medical officers.

This memorial is the second of its kind at a St. Luke’s location, but will not be the last. A COVID-19 memorial was recently dedicated at the Meridian St. Luke’s Medical Center, and another memorial is going to be added to St. Luke’s Nampa Medical Center later this month, according to St. Luke’s public relations manager Christine Myron.
