The threat of rain kept most people away from Creedmoor’s National Night Out on Oct. 1 but those that attended had a ringside view of one of Granville County’s K9 Officers in action

K9 Officer Lena, a German Shepherd, and her handler, Corporal Faucette, demonstrated the K9’s skills at sniffing out drugs. Faucette put her through he paces of smelling four separate boxes and Lena was able to pick out the box with the trace smell of drugs.

Lena has recently been utilized in a major case in the Oxford area where she tracked a suspect from a crime scene to a residence where he was captured.

A sheriff’s department spokesperson said the K9 units are called out almost every day to sniff a vehicle.

The GCSO has five K9 units on active duty.

The sparse crowd enjoyed hot dogs and beverages while they explored the fire trucks and other emergency services vehicles.

Also on hand were a group of local race car drivers, Carl Currin, Jason Dickerson, Tripp Evans talked with families and handed out stickers and prizes.
