Oklahoma Air National Guard names one of its fighter jets “The Spirit of Broken Arrow”

TULSA, Okla. — The 138th Fighter Wing of the Oklahoma Air National Guard named one of their fighter jets, aircraft 545, “The Spirit of Broken Arrow” at a ceremony held at the Tulsa Air National Guard Base.

Mayor Debra Wimpee revealed the plane and was shocked to see the logo for the City of Broken Arrow had been added to the outside of the plane.

“We didn’t know that was going to happen,” said Mayor Wimpee. “It was quite a surprise to see the city logo on the side of one of the F-16s!”

Currently, more than 115 service members of the Oklahoma Air National Guard live in Broken Arrow and many of them attended the event.

City leaders were also able to meet with the citizens of Broken Arrow who serve full-time in the military with the Oklahoma Air National Guard.

“We learned what our citizen soldiers are doing on the base and how as a military they are protecting our country and were made aware of some of the threats that we face as Americans,” said Mayor Wimpee.
