Springfield schools lift lockouts following nearby police activity

Several Springfield schools were on lockout on Wednesday due to police activity in the area.

Springfield High School, Hamlin Middle School, Brattain House, Brattain Campus and Two Rivers-Dos Rios Elementary were all put on lockout, keeping students after school hours. A lockout means classes and activities continue as normal inside, but all entry points are locked with no one entering or exiting the building.

Springfield Public Schools said the lockout began at 2:48 p.m., as advised by Springfield Police.

“Eugene Police Department is currently serving a search warrant in the area and the lockout is out of an abundance of caution,” stated Springfield Police via Facebook .

The Eugene Police investigation unit and Eugene Police SWAT took a suspect into custody at 3:20 p.m. near Sixth Street and Centennial Boulevard, close to Springfield High and Hamlin Middle.

In addition to the school lockouts, traffic on Centennial Boulevard was also restricted for a short time.

SPS lifted the lockout for all schools by 3:40 p.m. SPS said all families and guardians have been notified and all students have been sent home for the day.
