STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — As New Yorkers prepare for new mandatory composting rules, some may be wondering how they can keep their new, food-filled compost bins clean. Starting Oct. 6, all New York City residents will be required to separate their organic waste from the rest of their trash as part of the city’s expanded curbside composting program.
