‘Keep fighting’: Utah men share their journeys overcoming fentanyl addiction

SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) – There’s a list of things for 33-year-old Josh Larsen to remember when he’s on the worksite of his moving job, but for the past 6 months or so, he’s come to figure it out.

“It’s a constant learning process,” he said. “I feel like you can learn every single day.”

Josh said he has learned a lot — not just on the job, but in life. He was a drug addict for nearly 20 years, and less than a year ago, he was addicted to fentanyl.

“It took away all the feeling. You’re pretty much a zombie,” he reflected. “It was just kinda that escape that I never thought I was going to get out of.”

But, against all odds, he did get out of it. Josh said his turning point was when he got arrested in January of this year.

“I was homeless on the streets up here … I got arrested,” Josh said. “I remember sitting there going through the withdrawals … I was just fed up with it and done.”

He said that what happened next changed his life.
