‘Days of Our Lives’ Actress Deidre Hall Mourns Loss of Drake Hogestyn

Deidre Hall, who plays Marlena Evans on "Days of Our Lives," has expressed her grief over the passing of her longtime co-star and friend, Drake Hogestyn. Hogestyn, who portrayed John Black, died at 70 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Hogestyn joined "Days of Our Lives" in 1986, and his character’s romance with Marlena became a fan favorite. Hall praised Hogestyn’s professionalism and dedication, saying he was always prepared and ready to face any challenge in a scene.

Outside of work, Hogestyn was known for his love of family and the New York Yankees. Hall joked that his costars knew his two greatest passions were his wife and children and the baseball team.

"Drake is dearly loved by everyone who ever knew him and he will be missed beyond measure," Hall said. "We will continue, as he always encouraged us, to swing for the fences."

Hogestyn’s family confirmed his death on September 29th. The actor had been battling pancreatic cancer and died peacefully surrounded by loved ones.

"He faced the challenge with incredible strength and determination," the family statement said. "We love him and we will miss him all the Days of our Lives."

Tributes have poured in from Hogestyn’s "Days of Our Lives" co-workers, including executive producer Ken Corday, who called him "the ultimate team player." Hogestyn’s final new episode aired on September 9th, but his last filming day was in February.
