Puram Sisters Embrace Ancient Indian Dance Forms in Modern Texas

Nag Shivani Puram and Nag Hamsini Puram, the Puram sisters, had always been inseparable. Growing up in the suburban towns of Ashburn-Virginia and Frisco-Texas in USA, they shared a deep bond over everything—whether it was their childhood dreams, secrets, or their shared love for dance. Their mother, eager to nurture their passion, had introduced them to Bollywood dance , Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi from an early childhood which were associated with their parents’ home state back in India. Soon they were attending classes with Mrs. Nerina Rabha of Dashavatar dance school, a local dance instructor in Frisco, Texas who had a strong reputation for teaching various forms of Indian dance to all nationalities.

Under Mrs. Nerina’s guidance, the sisters thrived in Bollywood dance, enjoying the vibrant energy and fun-filled routines. But it wasn’t long before something unexpected caught their attention. One afternoon, as class was ending, Mrs. Nerina, or Guruji as the girls affectionately called her, decided to show them some videos of her other performances.
