Next Step? Canby getting ready to talk transportation

With two legs of the City of Canby’s comprehensive plan dealt with, Mayor Brian Hodson said it’s on to the next leg – transportation.

The city has put a wrap its housing needs analysis and economic development plan and will now start the process of determining what and where Canby residents want from their transportation system in the next two decades.

“We are moving forward with our comprehensive plan, which will include an urban growth boundary expansion,” said Hodson. “Next up will be to start a conversation about transportation in and around Canby over the next 20 years. We’ll be having community updates and meetings about that in the near future.”

Hodson pointed to the nearly complete Highway 99E paving project, and its impact on the community and local businesses, as an example of how important having a viable, workable transportation plan in place is.

“That was just a paving project initially, but because the foundation of the highway had to be redone, it added complexity to the project,” said Hodson. “And we have our own city project for the expansion and extension of Walnut Street through to 99E, which will be a big project, too. Those transportation things are not cheap, and they are not totally turnkey.”
