New nonstop flights between Las Vegas and Rochester begin this week

Southwest Airlines has added direct flights between Rochester and Las Vegas, the first nonstop service between the two cities in 16 years, since 2008.

Starting Thursday, Southwest Airlines nonstop service will operate between the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport and the Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas.

The flight between Rochester and Las Vegas is scheduled to operate four times each week — on Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Friday — starting Oct. 3. Each flight will operate on a 175-seat 737-8, according to a news release from Monroe County Executive Adam Bello. The new service adds more than 500 seats per week between Rochester and Las Vegas.

Monroe County Executive Adam Bello said that Rochester is the largest unserved domestic market for Las Vegas. and that Las Vegas was among the largest unserved destinations out of Rochester.

With around 270 daily flights to 66 destinations, Southwest Airlines is the largest air service carrier operating out of the Harry Reid International Airport. Nonstop service to Las Vegas will also bring improved connectivity to other high demand western destinations including Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Francisco, San Diego and Seattle.
