Q&A: Meet Bonita City Council candidates for District 2

Bonita Springs City Councilman Jesse Purdon hopes to be reelected in District 2.

He faces political newcomer Zach Smith, a local business owner.

Purdon was first elected in 2020 ― in a special election. Then reelected nine months later.

Smith, a former teacher, opened Ceremony Brewing in downtown Bonita three years ago.

Here’s a bit more about the two candidates and how they’d approach the job, based on a handful of questions posed by the Naples Daily News:

Now 40, Purdon was the first minority elected to council in Bonita Springs’ 20-year history. He was also the youngest.

A 16-year city resident, he oversees the management and operations of Florida’s 19th Congressional District Offices in Lee and Collier counties for U.S. Congressman Byron Donalds.

He’s proud of his accomplishments on city council.

“I have brought back major dollars to the city, specifically District 2, which has been historically overlooked, putting dollars into the community where it is needed on a ground level,” he said.
