Port of Wilmington shuts down cargo for the first time in 4 decades

In this edition of the What’s Going There in Delaware newsletter, a lot of the biggest news is probably what isn’t going anywhere.

For the first time in 47 years, port workers across the East and Gulf Coasts have shut down cargo shipments into and out of America’s ports , shining a spotlight on America’s increasing reliance on overseas imports from Asia in particular – and giving most of the country a refresher course in what’s coming into our local ports.

Port of Wilmington dockworkers have picked up pickets over fears about automation at the ports, while Delaware Costco shoppers panic-buy American-made toilet paper for no particular reason .
