Ukraine Strikes Russian Airfield with Drones

Ukrainian forces have attacked a Russian military airfield where fighter-bombers and glide bombs are stored. The strike targeted the Borisoglebsk airfield in Voronezh, Russia.

The attack, carried out by long-range drones, hit warehouses, fuel storage, and aircraft parking areas. Russia has used the base to launch bombing missions against Ukraine.

Ukraine is particularly concerned about the Su-34 fighter-bombers, which can launch nearly unstoppable glide bombs. Kyiv has been targeting these aircraft and their bombs at their bases.

The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) said the strike is part of ongoing efforts to reduce Russia’s ability to attack Ukrainian cities. The SBU aims to “demilitarize” Russian airfields and prevent Russia from feeling secure on its own territory.

This attack is the latest in a series of deep strikes by Ukraine on key Russian military installations. Kyiv has targeted aircraft, missiles, and other weapons throughout the conflict.

Ukraine has relied heavily on domestically produced drones for these strikes, as it is restricted from using Western-provided missiles to hit targets inside Russia. Ukraine has urged the West to lift these restrictions to enhance its ability to defend against Russia.
