Aurora officers shoot, kill 1 after responding to reported arguments started by armed man

DENVER (KDVR) — The Aurora Police Department reported that officers were involved in a shooting on Thursday afternoon that left a man dead.

No officers were injured.

The agency said officers were responding to a report of a fight in a parking lot when the shooting occurred in the 11900 block of East 16th Avenue, which is at the intersection with Oswego Street. The initial call appears to have originated at Brent’s Place , a safe-clean housing facility for families, but the incident spread to nearby properties.

One person was taken to a local hospital and later died. Aurora police said the man has been identified, but will not be releasing his identity at this time.

Officers said the man was wearing a black hoodie and carrying an assault-style rifle when he was contacted by police. Officers reported that the man had been “fighting” with another man.

The armed man was shot by police after repeated contact with two officers who told him to drop the weapon, Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain said on Thursday afternoon.
