Oregon City police warn of jury duty scam

Oregon City residents have reported receiving phone calls from scammers posing as police officers asking for payment in order to avoid arrest, according to the Oregon City Police Department.

The calls involve a fake officer telling someone they missed jury duty and have to pay to avoid issuance of a warrant for their arrest.

“Please do not give them any money,” Oregon City police wrote on social media. “This is a known scam and these criminals spoof their phone numbers to make it look like they are calling from a local number when they are not.”

Police said the scammers will often give the names of actual officers, though these are widely available on the internet.
