Kirk Cousins Makes History on Wild Final Play of Falcons-Buccaneers

The Atlanta Falcons pulled off an improbable 36-30 overtime win against the division rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers on “Thursday Night Football.” With the win, Atlanta pulled even with the Bucs at 3-2 on the season.

The Falcons exploded for a season-high 36 points and 550 total yards, led by a monster game from quarterback Kirk Cousins. The 36-year-old Pro Bowler, who had shown some signs of limited mobility in his first couple games back from season-ending Achilles surgery, had one of the best games of his 13-year career.

Cousins notched his 31st career game-winning drive and finished the night completing 42-of-58 pass attempts for 509 yards, four touchdowns, one interception and a passer rating of 114.8.

The performance was also a historic one for Cousins and his new team.

After the game, the Amazon Prime broadcast, as well as ESPN insider Adam Schefter , confirmed that Cousins’ 509 passing yards were a new Falcons franchise record.

It also ranks tied for 15th with former Los Angeles Rams quarterback Vince Ferragamo for any single-game passing total in NFL history. Ferragamo threw for 509 yards against the Chicago Bears in Dec. 1982.
