COLUMBUS, Ga. ( WRBL ) — Hurricane Helene relief efforts are still in full swing.. as the nonprofit group Angel Flight is sending resources to areas impacted in North Carolina and Georgia.
Angel Flight is a group of volunteer pilots who devote their time, energy and aircraft in helping break down the transportation barriers for those in medical need.
On Thursday, four planes left Flightways Columbus, located at the Columbus Airport, to send hundreds of pounds of resources to those affected by Hurricane Helene. WRBL had the chance to see two planes load up resources and take off to those in need.
Len Stroizer is the Coordinator for Angel Flights. He has flown disaster relief operations during Hurricane Hugo and Katrina. He says since Hurricane Helene’s damage is so widespread flights could last weeks or even months.
“We’ve been doing this now for 72 hours and so far we probably altogether, I would say we’ve done at least 1,700 maybe 2,500 pounds of goods supplies today.”
