Augusta garbage service picks up again

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – People are taking out the trash. And now for the first time since the storm, Augusta is making efforts to get it picked up.

“This morning, I did see a trash truck come by I think they got one bag but not the other in my trash can. I’m emptying out my freezer like everyone else, so it’s been a little bit crazy,” said Nicole Worm.

These are crazy times for trash service, because in some cases like here on Heard Avenue you can’t go the usual route.

“Heard is still blocked, my driveway – you can see is still covered over with the power line on one side and a tree on the other,” said Rob Miller.

In the hard-hit Montclair neighborhood, they haven’t had trash pickup since September 21st.

They are part of the 20 percent of the city with Friday pickup, but that morning, things didn’t go as planned.

“No, are you kidding me? We couldn’t get out the door on Friday, but the neighborhood has been amazing when I see all the damage done,” said Renee Patterson.

To get to some of the trash the neighborhood put out dumpsters but residents saying since those with Friday pickup days have gone the longest without service those areas should have been the priority when the city restarted pickup.
