2 men arrested in connection with July shooting in Salem

Two people were arrested Thursday morning in connection with a July 9 shooting, Salem Police said.

A patrol officer investigating a report of suspicious activity located the two suspects just before 1 a.m. and the 33-year-old and 25-year-old men were arrested without incident. Police said a handgun was seized.

On July 9, Salem Police officers responded to a report of an injured man in the 2000 block of Lancaster Drive NE. They located a man with multiple gunshot wounds and he was taken to Salem Health with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers allege the man had been involved in a verbal encounter with two men in the parking lot of the shopping center when one of the suspects fired gunshots. The two men then fled on foot, police allege.

Both men had outstanding warrants.

The 33-year-old was being held in Marion County Jail on charges of failure to appear, unlawful possession of a weapon, altering identification of a firearm, attempt to commit murder, assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
