Rockford woman accused of strangling victim, damaging police car

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested Anastasia Cooper, 20, for allegedly strangling a woman and damaging the inside of a police vehicle.

On October 2nd, police were sent to the 900 block of 12th Street for a domestic violence incident. The woman told police she was packing her things to sleep somewhere else because Cooper was on narcotics.

Cooper pushed the victim by her neck and threw a phone at her face, causing her lip to bleed, according to court records. Cooper asked the woman if they could talk about the incident outside, reports said.

The victim told authorities while they were outside, the suspect started to strangle her but she was able to break away and call the police.

Officials said they found Cooper at the intersection of South 6th Street and 12th Avenue when she began to run west on 12th. After resisting arrest, Cooper was taken into custody, according to court records.

Police said when the suspect was in the vehicle she kicked the metal cage until it was damaged and the car door was as well.
