Beloit Memorial tries to keep momentum heading to Burlington

BELOIT — There’s two ways to look at playing a team right after it has faced Southern Lakes Conference frontrunner Lake Geneva Badger.

“First, they’re usually beat up pretty good after facing them so that’s a good thing,” Beloit Memorial head coach Brad Dement said. “But then you also have to figure they really want to get rolling and get back in the win column.”

That would be the not-so good thing. The Purple Knights will find out how Burlington (5-1, 3-1 SLC) reacted to its 54-14 loss to Badger last week when they face the host Demons on Friday night.

Beloit (4-2, 2-2) halted a two-game skid last week with a 28-21 victory over Wilmot. After trailing at halftime, the Knights regrouped and played a solid second half as junior running back James Ford III rushed 25 times for 155 yards and the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter.

The Knights should get a boost this week with a few players returning from injury, two-way starter Tucker Sherrod and defensive back Caiden Price.

Sherrod gives Dement some options on offense because he can play multiple positions.
