One person injured in shooting at apartment complex, Carencro police say

CARENCRO, La. ( KLFY ) — One person was injured in a shooting at an apartment complex Thursday, according to the Carencro Police Department.

Police said they were notified at around 3:30 p.m. of a shooting in the 300 block of Prejean Road.

Responding officers found one person who had been shot once, police said. Other information about the victim, including their condition status, was not immediately available.

A resident told KLFY News 10 that they heard about 12 gun shots.

Carencro Middle School was placed under a shelter-in-place at the request of the Carencro police chief, according to school officials, because the reported shooting down the street from the school occurred at around dismissal time.

“Recognizing the potential risk to students and faculty [the police chief] promptly notified LPSS leadership and recommended that a shelter-in-place protocol be enacted until officers could assess the situation,” the Lafayette Parish School System said in a news release.

LPSS said that in about 20 minutes, police was able to reassure school leadership that the situation had been resolved and there was no danger to students.
