‘Hogworks’ enchants Electric Works for the weekend

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Electric Works hosts the Hogworks Takeover on Saturday, an event to unite local charities, recreating an infamous magical world.

Jama Ross, the executive director of Blessings in a Backpack, is one of the organizers of the takeover. She said the experience of ‘Hogworks’ is an opportunity for over 40 local nonprofits to reach out to visitors and show them what services they provide.

“[The nonprofits] wanted to come together to show the community that we’re supporting each other, lifting each other up and really bring them into the magic of what’s really in our community,” Ross said.

Wizards and witches of all ages can learn about magical creatures with the Girl Coalition of Indiana, take a potions class with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and take a dueling class with a personal wand for Blessings in a Backpack.

Witches hats, robes and other costumes are encouraged at the Hogworks Takeover. Ross has organized events similar to the Hogworks Takeover. She said dressing up adds to the fun and most people who dress up are adults getting into the Halloween spirit.
