Former Kansas lawmaker sentenced in DUI case

A former Kansas lawmaker from south central Kansas has been given six months probation in connection with a DUI arrest in Topeka earlier this year. Former Kansas House member Carl Maughan of Colwich had pleaded no contest in Shawnee County to a charge of driving under the influence. A charge of possession of a firearm while under the influence and two traffic charges were dismissed. The charges were filed in connection with a March 4th arrest. Maughan will have to comply with a drug/alcohol evaluation. He would face three months in jail for violating the terms of the probation.
