Second suspect in deadly drive-by shooting scheduled for sentencing

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — One of the suspects in a deadly drive-by shooting is scheduled to be sentenced Friday morning.

Thaliea Arroyo pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder, prohibited use of a weapon, and multiple counts of criminal possession of a weapon. This followed a shooting on Dewey Avenue that claimed the life of 28-year-old Jevonte Huff.

In August 2023, Huff was found suffering from a gunshot wound at the Sunoco gas station. He was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later. RPD said they also responded to a drive-by shooting at the corner of Agnes Street and Hudson Avenue

Officers found the vehicle and, after a chase, officers arrested Arroyo alongside Naveair Stewart. A loaded handgun was recovered.

Stewart was sentenced last September to 40 years in prison for Huff’s death and for the death of 18-year-old Shanye Mootry , who was shot while sitting in a vehicle at the Anthony Jordan Health Center. Stewart pleaded not guilty to murder charges but pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree manslaughter.
