Man fights police after crashing into South Side gas station

A fire broke out at a South Side gas station Thursday night after a vehicle crashed into fuel pumps.

Pittsburgh Public Safety says Fire, Police and EMS were dispatched around 11:20 p.m. to the Coen gas station on East Carson Street at East 24 th Street.

First responders were able to quickly extinguish the fire at the gas pump. The driver was already out of the vehicle.

He fought with officers on the street and police discovered he hit an occupied vehicle right before crashing into the gas pump. The man inside the occupied vehicle was not hurt.

Police believe the man that crashed into the gas pump was “heavily under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.”

He was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for an evaluation.

One police officer was treated at a local hospital for a hand injury.
