Police arrest driver accused of street racing on I-25 in Denver

DENVER ( KDVR ) — Denver police arrested a driver for street racing on Interstate 25 last weekend.

On Sept. 29, Denver Police Department officers initiated an operation to locate and arrest anyone partaking in illegal street racing.

At around 12:45 a.m., officers received information that a group of racers were planning on traveling north on I-25 towards Denver. Officers spotted the group going northbound on I-25 near the Lincoln/Broadway exit.

Two motorists allegedly drove side by side before taking off in a street race.

Officers then attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Denver police said one driver was able to flee from officers, and the second was stopped near northbound I-25 and East Colfax Avenue.

According to police, the driver was cited for speed contest, driving without a valid driver’s license and driving without insurance. The driver’s vehicle was also impounded.

“Street racing is not only dangerous for the involved drivers but also creates the potential to harm or kill others who are not involved. Potential penalties the driver faces are jail time and court costs, along with the potential to have their vehicle seized,” said DPD in a press release.
