Caltrans Announces 55-Hour Closures of Rio Vista Bridge for Paving Project, Two Hour Delays Expected

Rio Vista, CA — Motorists who regularly travel over the Rio Vista Bridge (Helen Madere Memorial Bridge) on State Route 12 should prepare for multiple extended closures this fall as Caltrans initiates a major paving project. The closures will occur over three separate weekends, with each lasting 55 hours. Caltrans District 3 will oversee the project, which aims to complete vital roadway improvements and enhance safety for all users.

Scheduled Closures:

  • October 18 – October 21: From 9:00 p.m. on Friday to 5:00 a.m. on Monday
  • November 1 – November 4: From 9:00 p.m. on Friday to 5:00 a.m. on Monday
  • November 15 – November 18 (Tentative): From 9:00 p.m. on Friday to 5:00 a.m. on Monday

The closures are necessary for Caltrans to complete repairs and upgrades, including paving, drainage enhancements, and the installation of new ADA-compliant ramps to improve accessibility for pedestrians and other bridge users.

Impact on Traffic:

Motorists should plan for detours and potential delays of up to two hours during the closures. Local drivers are advised to use alternate routes and allow extra time for travel, especially for appointments or time-sensitive commitments. The Real McCoy II Ferry will remain operational during the closure periods, running every 20 minutes at scheduled intervals: on the hour, 20 minutes past the hour, and 40 minutes past the hour.
