This local aerial performer soars - and creates space for others

Luv Joy Seamon has performed in a Wonder Woman costume while wearing a mermaid tail and a pink flamingo pool float around her waist. She’s paraded on stilts, spun from silks and even bartended for a wedding reception while hanging upside-down.

There’s already a built-in wow factor to aerial performance, but Seamon’s routines tend to take it one step further, creating spectacles that are as impressive as they are challenging.

“I can make whatever I want — and make things that are really ridiculous,” says Seamon, who is one of 13 members of Cycropia, Madison’s aerial dance collective.

While many of her performances have a playful, whimsical spirit, a lot of thought goes into each routine. At July’s Disability Pride Festival in Warner Park, Seamon partnered with Martha Siravo, the founder of Wheels & Heels Inc. (an adaptive dance instruction program for individuals who use wheelchairs), for a duet about mutual support set to P!nk’s “Try.”

“In some moments, I’m supporting Martha to do something she wouldn’t be able to do without my support,” says Seamon. “In other moments, she’s supporting me to do things that I wouldn’t be able to do without her.”
