Navy Battles Houthis, Iranian Technology in Red Sea

The U.S. Navy has been engaged in a year-long battle against the Houthis, a Yemeni rebel group supported by Iran. The conflict has forced the Navy to adapt its strategies to counter Houthi attacks using Iranian drones and missiles.

Houthis Using Advanced Iranian Technology

Admiral Lisa Franchetti, Chief of Naval Operations, stated that the Houthis are employing some of Iran’s most advanced technology. The group has used aerial and surface drones to target merchant ships and threaten U.S. vessels in the Red Sea.

Navy Intercepts Houthi Threats

American warships and aircraft have successfully intercepted Houthi threats. Recently, U.S. forces engaged multiple Houthi drones and missiles. The Navy is also learning from the conflict and implementing new tactics and procedures to defeat these threats.

Unmanned Systems Changing Warfare

The increasing use of unmanned systems, such as drones and unmanned surface vehicles, is changing the nature of warfare. The Navy is exploring new ways to use these systems, including using Hellfire missiles against unmanned surface vehicles and air-to-air platforms to shoot down drones.
