Lockdown lifted at McFarland HS after ‘unfounded’ threat

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A reported threat that was later deemed unfounded to McFarland High School prompted a heavy law enforcement response Friday morning.

Emergency responders were called to McFarland High School on West Sherwood Avenue at around 11:30 a.m. McFarland Unified School District officials said they learned of a 911 call for potential threat to McFarland High School.

Authorities arrived at the school at around 11:30 a.m., McFarland Unified School District Superintendent Aaron Resendez said. He said there was no indication of an active threat but they are treating it like one nd the school was placed on lockdown.

Multiple law enforcement agencies arrived on scene and secured the campus, officials said.

In an alert to parents, the district said: “There is no indication of an active threat at this time. District officials are working with law enforcement to assess the situation.”

The school said all students and staff were safe and the lockdown was lifted at around 1 p.m.
